LOS ANGELES, CA (January 24, 2005) – New Line Home Entertainment springs into 2005 with a selection of celebrated dramatic and comedic films, An Awfully Big Adventure, The Grass Harp, Julian Po, and Widows’ Peak, making their DVD debut on April 19, 2005. An Awfully Big Adventure, directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, forthcoming Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) and starring Hugh Grant (Bridget Jones Diary, Love Actually) and Alan Rickman (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Love Actually), is an enchanting look at the world of grown-up theater through the eyes of a young girl. The Grass Harp, featuring an all-star cast including Sissy Spacek (A Home at the End of the World, In the Bedroom), Jack Lemmon (Glengarry Glen Ross, The Odd Couple), Walter Matthau (Out to Sea, The Odd Couple) and Mary Steenburgen (Elf, TV’s Joan of Arcadia), brings the characters of Truman Capote’s book to life in this touching story of how people learn to love and change in a small town. Christian Slater (Alone in the Dark, The Contender), Robin Tunney (The In-Laws, Cherish) and Allison Janney (How to Deal, TV’s The West Wing) star in Julian Po, the story of a mysterious drifter whose life takes a fateful turn when he stops in a quiet town not accustomed to accepting strangers. Mia Farrow (Miami Rhapsody, Husbands and Wives), Joan Plowright (Bringing Down the House, forthcoming Bewitched) and Natasha Richardson (Maid in Manhattan, The Parent Trap) star in Widows’ Peak, a lighthearted comedy...with just a hint of murder-mystery. All four films will be available on DVD at a $19.97 SRP, and the order due date is March 22, 2005. All four DVD titles feature widescreen (1.85:1) versions of the films, DTS Sound, 5.1 Surround and Stereo Surround Sound, English and Spanish subtitles and closed captions. An Awfully Big Adventure, The Grass Harp and Widows' Peak also include the original, theatrical trailers. AN AWFULLY BIG ADVENTURE Rated R for sexuality and some language · 113 minutes Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman star in director Mike Newell’s (Four Weddings and a Funeral) engaging comedy about a star-struck young girl lured into the grown-up world of the theater when she takes a job with an unconventional stage troupe in post World War II Liverpool. From a crush on the company’s heartless director to her first sexual encounter with the show’s biggest star, young Stella Bradshaw quickly discovers what it takes to make it in the theater. An intriguing blend of comedy and passion, this provocative story is a hilarious look at what really goes on when the lights go down. THE GRASS HARP Rated PG for mild language and thematic elements · 107 minutes Following the death of his parents, young Collin Fenwick (Edward Furlong, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, American History X) comes to a small southern town to live with his father’s cousins, Verena and Dolly Talbo. He soon discovers that the Talbo household is anything but normal. Verena (Sissy Spacek) rules the house, as well as the entire town, with a stern hand. Meanwhile, her older sister Dolly (Piper Laurie, Eulogy, Carrie) charms Collin with her gentle, romantic spirit. To escape Verena’s oppression, Dolly, Collin and the Talbo’s eccentric maid, Catherine (Nell Carter, TV’s Gimme A Break), run away to an old tree house in the woods. But their adventure sparks a series of events that will change not just their lives but the future of the entire town as well. JULIAN PO Rated PG-13 for thematic elements related to suicide, and for language and some sensuality · 90 minutes Rich with romance and humor, Julian Po is an incredible journey of love and discovery. Mysterious wanderer Julian Po (Christian Slater) unceremoniously enters a hermetic small town that hasn't admitted strangers inside its city limits since the days of the Civil War. While the vexed locals try to make sense of this interloper, he lets loose with a bizarre confession – he's come to kill himself. In a place where nothing ever happens, he becomes the object of fascination for its quirky inhabitants. The men revere him, the children follow him and the women hang on to his every word. But most significant of all is Sarah (Robin Tunney), a pretty girl who sees the stranger as the love she has dreamed of for so long. WIDOWS’ PEAK Rated PG for mild language and theme · 101 minutes When a sexy stranger (Natasha Richardson) moves to the town of Widows’ Peak, she turns the town upside down with her devious lies and shocking secrets. Using all of her charms, she seduces the men, enrages the women and unleashes a major scandal, but its all part of an astonishing plan. With one startling revelation after another the scheme is finally exposed, but one mystery remains until the very end: Is it murder? |
