LOS ANGELES, CA (January 31, 2005) – Academy Award®-winner Nicole Kidman (The Hours, Moulin Rouge) stars as a widow faced with an astounding dilemma in Birth, a stylishly woven tale of love, mortality and the unknown, available on DVD April 19 from New Line Home Entertainment. Jonathan Glazer, who burst onto the scene with the acclaimed feature Sexy Beast, directs this thought-provoking, unforgettable drama set against the backdrop of Manhattan’s upper east side. The DVD will be priced at $27.95 SRP, and the pre-order due date is March 22, 2005. With Birth, Glazer fulfills the promise of his brilliant directorial debut with a meta-physical story that explores the space between what we know and what we feel. In a performance which recently garnered her a Golden Globe® nomination, Kidman achieves a breathtaking level of emotional transparency and is beautifully paired with young Canadian actor Cameron Bright (Godsend). The superb supporting ensemble includes the legendary Lauren Bacall (Dogville, To Have And Have Not); Danny Huston (21 Grams, The Aviator); Anne Heche (Psycho, John Q.); Arliss Howard (Full Metal Jacket); British actress Cara Seymour (Hotel Rwanda, Adaptation); Ted Levine (The Manchurian Candidate, The Silence of the Lambs); Swedish actor Peter Stormare (Fargo); Alison Elliot (Wings of the Dove); and, in a rare recent film appearance, Tony Award-winner Zoe Caldwell (Medea). Birth is written by Jean-Claude Carriere (Belle de Jour, The Unbearable Lightness of BeingM), Jonathan Glazer and Milo Addica (Monster’s Ball). |

SYNOPSIS Ten years after the death of her beloved husband Sean, Anna (Kidman) is finally ready to emerge from the shadow of grief and begin a new chapter in her life. After agreeing to marry Joseph (Huston), a good-humored, cultured man who has patiently courted the lovely widow for three years, Anna meets a ten year-old boy (Bright) who tells her he is Sean reincarnated. Though his story is both unsettling and absurd, Anna can’t get the boy out of her mind. And, much to the concern of her fiancée, her increased contact with the child leads Anna to question the choices she has made in her life.
