Los Angeles (January 6, 2003) New Line Home Entertainment today announced the DVD and VHS release of the teen comedy Cheats. This rite of passage film offers a look at four friends who cheat their way through high school, all the while elevating the process to an art form. All goes well until one day they slip up and as their last year comes to a close, so does their friendship. Cheats will be available to rent on DVD and VHS or to purchase on DVD for $24.98 on March 18. Written and directed by Andrew Gurland, Cheats stars Matthew Lawrence (The Hot Chick, Mrs. Doubtfire), Trevor Fehrman, Elden Henson (O, She’s All That), Martin Starr (TVs “Freaks and Geeks”), Griffin Dunne (After Hours, 40 Days and 40 Nights) and Mary Tyler Moore (Flirting With Disaster, TV’s “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”) The DVD includes a widescreen (1.85:1) version of the film, as well as “The Real Cheats,” a 21-minute documentary, and three deleted and alternative scenes. The DVD also features 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound, DTS Surround Sound, 2.0 Stereo Surround Sound, English and Spanish Subtitles, Closed Captions and animated menus. | While other kids buy into countless hours of studying just to get good marks in some teacher’s report book, Handsome Davis sees it as nothing more than a system of control over your mind. That’s why Handsome, Sammy, Victor and Applebee have found ways to cheat on their tests all through their school years. Everything has been going smoothly until the gang enters their final year of high school and the school’s principal Mrs. Stark (Mary Tyler Moore) decides to put an end to the cheating. If they get caught cheating again, Stark will make a note in their permanent records and hurt their chances of getting into college.
