Award-winning Stars ASHLEY JUDD, MIRA SORVINO, JENNIFER JASON LEIGH, JAMES GARNER, GINA GERSHON and MARY LOUISE PARKER Headline Crime Dramas
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 15, 2004) – New Line Home Entertainment is on a crime spree February 15 as Kansas City, Legalese, Normal Life and Amongst Friends make their DVD debuts. Kansas City, directed by Robert Altman (Gosford Park, The Player) and starring Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Anniversary Party, Single White Female), Harry Belafonte (White Man’s Burden, Carmen Jones) and Dermot Mulroney (Undertow, About Schmidt) takes a stylized look at Kansas City in the 1930’s with small time hoods and a big time jazz soundtrack. Legalese, starring (The Notebook, TV’s 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter), Gina Gershon (Bound, Showgirls), and Kathleen Turner (The Virgin Suicides) is a comic look at the drama surrounding an actress accused of murder and the high profile lawyer defending her. Normal Life stars
Ashley Judd in an early feature film performance and is based on a true story of love, obsession and destruction while Amongst Friends stars Academy Award®-winner Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) in her feature film debut. All four films will be available on DVD at a $19.97 SRP, and the order due date is January 18, 2005.

All four DVD titles feature widescreen (1.85:1) versions of the films, DTS Sound, 5.1 Surround and Stereo Surround Sound, English and Spanish subtitles and closed captions. Kansas City offers a director commentary from Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Robert Altman. Kansas City, Normal Life/i> and Amongst Friends also feature the original, theatrical trailers.
KANSAS CITY

Rated R for scenes of violence, sexuality, drug use and language · 108 minutes

In 1934 Kansas City, the mob runs the dice games, prostitutes, cops and politicians. When a small time hood (Mulroney) gets the bright idea to knock over a buddy of the city’s top gangster, a club owner named Seldom Seen (Belafonte), he crosses the wrong man and finds himself in deeper trouble than he could ever imagine. Now, it’s up to Blondie O’Hara (Leigh), his tough-talking girlfriend, to come to his rescue. Her solution? Kidnap a wealthy presidential advisor’s wife (Miranda Richardson, The Hours, the forthcoming The Phantom of the Opera) and swap her for her boyfriend. Kidnapping, murder and mayhem are the perfect backdrop for some of the most impressive, star-studded cinematic jazz sessions ever shown on screen.

LEGALESE

Rated R for some sexuality · 92 minutes

When a popular actress (Gershon) is accused of murder, she seeks the counsel of celebrity attorney Norman Keane (Garner). Knowing that cases are won not in the courtroom but on television, Keane hires young, inexperienced lawyer Roy Guyton (Edward Kerr, The Astronaut’s Wife, TV’s What I Like About You) to serve as his front. Fitted with a fake farm-boy accent, TV-friendly personality and a hearing aid from which he receives Keane’s signals, Guyton quickly captures the hearts of America. But, when a tabloid journalist (Turner) does some uncovering, Guyton is thrown into the spotlight of a media circus, finding himself at the center of his own trial where truth may be his only defense.

NORMAL LIFE

Rated R for scenes of violence, sexuality, drug use and language · 108 minutes

Natural Born Killers meets True Romance in this sexy, psychological action-thriller from director John McNaughton (Wild Things) and starring Ashley Judd (Twisted, Double Jeopardy, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood) and Luke Perry (TV’s Beverly Hills, 90210, 8 Seconds). Chris Anderson (Perry) and his wife (Judd) live a fairly normal life – until Chris loses his job on the police force and secretly turns to robbing banks to make his mentally unbalanced wife’s dreams come true. Upon discovering his secret, she joins his deadly crime wave, terrorizing an unsuspecting suburban town in this riveting drama based on actual events.

AMONGST FRIENDS

Rated R for violence, drug use, sexuality and pervasive strong language · 88 minutes

Starring Academy-Award® winner Mira Sorvino, Amongst Friends is a fascinating and haunting portrait of friendship bound by money, power and greed. Billy, Trevor and Andy are three friends from a wealthy suburb who have everything they’ve ever wanted – except respect. When they discover the “small-time hustle” and the respect it commands on the street, they soon realize the games they once played as friends now have deadly consequences, and the price of success is betrayal.
