The Agronomist is a project born of passion and friendship that tells the story of Haitian national hero, journalist and freedom fighter Jean Dominique, whom Demme first met and filmed in 1986. As owner and operator of his nation’s oldest and only free radio station, Radio Haiti Inter, Dominique was frequently at odds with his country’s various oppressive governments and spent much of the ‘80s and early ‘90s in exile in New York, where Demme continued to interview him over the years. Dominique fought tirelessly against his country’s tyranny from corrupt political regimes and overwhelming poverty. But it was Dominique’s shocking and still unsolved assassination in April of 2000 that gave the director the impetus to assemble more than a decade's worth of material into a celebration of this dynamic man and his legacy.

Set in the 1930’s, the film centers around a social set known to the press – who follow their every move – as the “Bright Young Things.” Adam (Stephen Campbell Moore, A Good Woman) and his friends are eccentric, wild and entirely shocking to the older generation. Amidst the madness, Adam, who is well connected but totally broke, is desperately trying to get enough money to marry the beautiful Nina (Mortimer). While his attempts to raise cash are constantly thwarted, their friends seem to self-destruct, one-by-one, in an endless search for newer and faster sensations. Finally, when world events out of their control come crashing around them, they are forced to reassess their lives and what they value most.

Set in contemporary Mongolia, the film explores the interwoven destinies of a family of herders and the animals they raise in their desert home, specifically a vulnerable baby camel who cries for the attentions of its mother. Without its mother’s milk, the little camel will not survive, so, in accordance with an ancient ritual, a musician is summoned from a far-off village to perform a ceremony that is meant to coax the mother into nursing her baby. While trying to bring the mother and baby camel together, the children of the family are exposed to long-standing tradition as well as modern day concepts for the very first time, including such worldly fascinations as television.

Apart from reuniting parent with child, legend has it that the ritual has the miraculous side effect of causing the mother to weep. Exploring a distant and exotic culture in which tradition, myth and family unity (both human and animal) are essential elements of daily life, The Story of the Weeping Camel is a window into a different way of living and the universal terrain of the heart.

Shot in the Gobi desert, the film combines unstaged, unrehearsed sequences with carefully prepared recreations of authentic experience, blending the best of fiction and documentary techniques in order to capture for the first time in a dramatic feature an all-but-vanished way of life.

As they set out on a quest to satisfy their craving for White Castle hamburgers, their simple road trip turns into a hilarious, all-night epic journey of deep thoughts, deeper inhaling and a wild trip through New Jersey – as “un-PC” as it gets. Along the way, Harold and Kumar meet an array of crazy characters and one screwy obstacle after another (not to mention one rabid raccoon and an escaped cheetah on the run), but with every step of the journey, they somehow manage to keep their eye on the tasty prize, learning more than they bargained for about themselves and each other in the process.
