Tim Roth Stars In Legendary Filmmaker's
First Fictional Theatrical Release In Over A Decade

Los Angeles (March 17, 2003) Internationally acclaimed filmmaker Werner Herzog departs from documentary filmmaking for the first time in over 10 years with the release of Invincible available on DVD and VHS from New Line Home Entertainment. Based on the true story of Zishe Breitbart, a simple Jewish man transported from his humble village roots to the giddy excesses of 1930’s Berlin just before the war; the film looks at his involvement with the famous clairvoyant Erik Jan Hanussen, and the secret these two men share. Invincible stars Academy Award® nominated actor Tim Roth as Erik Jan Hanussen, the clairvoyant who is deep in Hitler’s inner circle until it is uncovered that he is a Jew in disguise. Invincible will be available to rent on DVD and VHS or to purchase on DVD for $26.98 on June 3.

Invincible stars Academy Award® nominee Tim Roth (Planet of the Apes, Pulp Fiction, Rob Roy) as the famous clairvoyant Erik Jan Hanussen. Making their acting debuts in Invincible are Jouko Ahola, two-time World’s Strongest Man (1997,1999), as Zishe, the simple strong man who believes that integrity and pure strength can overcome all obstacles and Anna Gourari, a world-renowned classical pianist as Marta Farra, the woman caught between the two men.

Werner Herzog, winner and nominee for numerous international film awards, including Best Director Winner at the Cannes Film Festival for Fitzcarraldo, is considered one of the most eccentric figures in New German Cinema with his renowned collaboration with actor Klaus Kinski on such features as Aguirre The Wrath of God and Nosferatu the Vampyre. He has produced, written and directed more than 40 films, published more than a dozen books of prose, and directed as many operas. Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer composed the score.

The DVD includes a widescreen version of the film, as well as 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound, DTS Surround Sound, 2.0 Stereo Surround Sound, English and Spanish subtitles, closed captions and animated menus. Additionally, the DVD will include the theatrical trailer and theatrical trailers from other New Line Home Entertainment films.

Invincible chronicles Zishe Breitbart's (Ahola) journey from a young Jewish blacksmith of great strength, to becoming the renowned "strongest man in the world" in a Berlin nightclub just before the Nazis come to power. Zishe gets his start after he beats the strongman in the circus and an agent offers to find him work in Berlin as a strongman. Initially resistant, Zishe ventures to Berlin on the belief that God has something special in mind for him. In Berlin, Zishe gets a position immediately in a nightclub run by a con man -- clairvoyant Erik Jan Hanussen (Roth) -- playing the historic German hero Siegfried in the club's variety show. At first, Zishe is too overwhelmed and intimidated to see what is happening to the Jews, but after Zishe's mother and brother Benjamin come for a visit, Zishe reveals himself as a Polish Jew to a room full of Nazis and the precarious balance is tipped.
