Los Angeles, CA (May 13, 2002) New Line Home Entertainment today announced the Platinum Series DVD release of the fast-paced audience favorite The Mack. This best selling VHS classic offers an intimate look at big city street life in the 70’s and is considered to be a blaxploitation masterpiece. The Mack will be available for rental and for sale on Platinum Series DVD for $19.98, on September 3. The Platinum Series DVD includes feature-length audio commentary by The Mack star Max Julien, Director Michael Campus, producer Harvey Bernhard as well as other members of the cast. The original documentary, “Mackin’ Ain’t Easy,” looks at the stories behind the making of this cult classic, as well as examining the politics of Oakland in the 70’s and explains why this film is still so influential with filmmakers and artists to this day. The DVD features a widescreen version of the movie, the theatrical trailer, Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, DTS surround sound, stereo surround sound, English subtitles, closed captions and animated menus. The Mack is directed by Michael Campus, written by Robert J. Poole, and produced by Harvey Bernhard. In addition to Julien, The Mack stars Richard Pryor (Lost Highway, Stir Crazy) as Goldie’s fast-talking sidekick, Roger E. Mosely (A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, TV’s “Magnum P.I.”) as his Black Panther brother. |

| Originally released in 1973, The Mack stars Max Julien (How To Be A Player) as Goldie, a sharp, smooth-talking hustler who’s back on the streets after five years in prison. His dream is to rule the streets with a stable of topnotch hookers and a fancy white Cadillac. Goldie and his sidekicks have the brains, the muscle and the cool to take on the takers and push out the pushers. He winds up king of the pimping game, but trouble comes in the form of two corrupt white cops and a crime boss, who is threatened by Goldie’s new status as The Mack. Packed with raw power, The Mack takes an uncompromising look at big city street life and survival. | ||||||||||||||||||
