Willard Makes Unlikely Friends

With a boss from hell, a dead end job, an overbearing, ill mother and no friends, life has become one big trap for Willard Stiles (Glover). Things start looking up when he is sent to dispose of rats that were found in his home and instead discovers that he begins to share a powerful bond with them.

Cathryn, a co-worker (Laura Elena Harring), lends an understanding hand, but even she takes a back seat to Socrates, Ben and the rest of the legion of rats that begin to infest the basement of the Stiles home. When Willard’s world is turned upside-down by tragedy, those responsible must answer to his rapidly growing pack of ravenous, fearsome friends.

Frightening DVD Features

The Platinum Series™ DVD features two original documentaries, The Year of the Rat and Rat People: Friends or Foes. The Year of the Rat is a feature length documentary from the perspective of a film student that follows the filmmaking process from pre-production on the film through the aftermath of its theatrical opening. Rat People: Friends or Foes looks at rats and their place in society. Also included on the DVD is filmmaker commentary with Director Glen Morgan, Producer James Wong, Crispin Glover and R. Lee Ermey Additionally, the DVD contains the Crispin Hellion Glover Music Video “Ben” with optional commentary, a widescreen version of the film (2:35.1), a fullscreen version of the film, 5.1 Dolby Digital EX 5.1 Surround Sound, Stereo Surround Sound, English and Spanish subtitles and animated menus. The DVD also includes the theatrical trailer, television spots and theatrical trailers from other New Line Cinema films. The DVD-ROM content includes the “Script-to-Screen” screenplay feature, a rat gallery, a trivia challenge and the original website.

Infamous Cast and Crew

Directed by Glen Morgan, the film stars Glover (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Back to the Future), Harring (John Q., Mulholland Drive), Ermey (Saving Silverman, Run Ronnie Run!) and a legion of live rats. The film is produced by James Wong, whose longtime association with Glen Morgan includes successful collaborations for television (“The X-Files,” “Space: Above & Beyond”) and film (Final Destination, The One).
